Northern Beaches Dragon Boat Club

Newsletter No. 2

Welcome back to all our old paddlers and the new paddlers who have just started.

We have now had 2 training sessions, 1 race and our open day.

Open day

The open day attracted 10 new paddlers plus 1 who came late and will be back on Sunday. Whether they all stay, time will tell, but for now please make them feel welcome in the club.

I would like to propose another open day which will be held on Saturday 18th October. This would be advertised in the Manly Daily and I would like to try and get them to write an editorial as well. We have had some good responses from the Manly Daily in the past so hopefully this will be the same again.

For this to be a success we will need paddlers available on the day to help with getting the boats into the water and out again, and also to paddle. If we have enough paddlers turn up then maybe we can use this as a training session before the race which we have the following day. Let me know what you think about that.

I plan to have the session between 9am and 11am on the Saturday morning.

Treasurer

Marion has resigned from being Treasurer and will be taking time off from dragon boats this season for personal reasons. I wish her well and thank her for all her efforts in the past season.

Helen and Steve Marton have offered to take on the role of Treasurer jointly and will replace Marion on the committee.

Training

Training from now on will be on Sunday mornings with an 8.15am start.

Week night training will commence with daylight savings.

Races

The next scheduled race will be held at the Dobroyd Aquatic Club (I think this is in Drummoyne) on Sunday 19th October 2003. More information will be available when it comes to hand. The teams that we enter will depend on our numbers at the time.

Subscriptions

Membership fees are now due for all old paddlers, new paddlers have 3 weeks to decide if they wish to continue paddling and become members.

The cost for membership to the club will be the same as last year, $120 for the season. This covers race entry fees, boat hire, public liability insurance, membership to Dragon Boats NSW.

Please see Helen or Steve Marton, Anne or Geoff for renewals and membership forms.

Coaches and sweeps

Anybody interested in becoming a coach or sweep then contact Geoff Taken on 0418239980.

If anyone has anything that they could contribute to the club, then please contact any of the committee members. The more people that can help, the better for the club.

Contributions such as stories, photos, jokes, etc are most welcome. Forward these to Geoff Taken for inclusion (or censoring).

See you all on the water
